Location - S'Arraco

S'Arraco, Mallorca

Outstanding Features

S'Arracó is to be found in the valley of the same name, amongst the neighbouring valleys of Andratx and of Sa Palomera. This locality began functioning as an urban nucleus thanks to the existence of some country estates such as that of Son Joan. It was at the beginning of the XVIII century when the beginnings of the nucleus of S’Arracó began around the chapel of the 'Santo Cristo' built by Antoni Ferrandell Verí, who is considered to be the founder of the town.

Of the urban area some houses of a Modernist style which were built by the people of the town, immigrants of France are outstanding. The old school building is also remarkable and three bars which are an important central meeting place for the people of the locality: Can Nou, Can Viguet y Can Prima. At present, s'Arracó has a population of about one thousand inhabitants, including an important number of artists of different nationalities who have chosen this serene valley as their home.

S'Arracó has to be passed through to be able to get to the coastal town of Sant Elm and to the island of Sa Dragonera. It is also ideal to know la Trapa. The town is also well communicated with the town of Andratx by a recently renewed road that leads onto the motorway to Andratx and to the Port. The festivities are celebrated on the 28th of August, the day of Saint Agustin. The celebrations usually continue until the 8th of September, when the festivity of the Virgen de la Trapa, is celebrated by the inhabitants and believers by going up the mountain.

Golf Courses

The municipality of Andratx has excellent installations for playing golf in Golf d’Andratx, together with the golf course of Dorint Royal Golf resort & Spa Camp de Mar.

Impressions

S’Arracó is a haven of peace in the heart of the mountain range known as the Serra de Tramontana. Its quiet streets, the warmth of its hospitable people, the simple life that is lead indoors, are things that cause a deep impression on those who are not familiar with this area and Mallorca as a combination. S’Arracó is on the way to get to one of the most emblematic places of the Balearic IslandsDragonera, those who walk through its streets or have a coffee in one of its bars and have a chat with the people of the town the 'arraconer', are not let down in the least. All of this, into the bargain, has a relative proximity to the Balearic capital Palma de Mallorca
