Mallorca is a paradise for golf enthusiasts. Its climate, with over 300 days of sunshine a year, a privileged natural environment and its excellent infrastructure has made it one of the main European enclaves in which to play this sport.
One of the big attractions of the island is being able to access 25 golf courses with an extraordinary variety in less than one hour. It is also possible to live in areas with a considerable concentration of golf courses so that you can enjoy different experiences just a short distance from your home.
Living near a golf course does not only provide the pleasure of playing the sport, but it also means that you are surrounded by peaceful surroundings close to nature.
In Mallorca, there are areas which have a great variety of high-end golf courses and which, on most occasions, also enable you to live near the sea and important marinas with water sports. We provide details of the most important ones here:
In the surroundings of the beautiful coastal town of Camp de Mar, and just 30 km from Palma de Mallorca, perfectly connected via a motorway is the Andratx golf course. An 18 hole course in which every hole represents a challenge. Its 6th hole is the longest in Spain (5 par, 609 metres).
It has the additional incentive of being close to the Port d’Andratx, a cosmopolitan enclave with a fishing port, a marina, a sailing school as well as excellent leisure and dining facilities.
Another advantage it has is its proximity to the municipality of Calvià which encompasses golf courses, prestigious marinas and luxury residential areas.
Calvià is the quintessential Mallorcan coastal municipality. Despite being home to inland towns and country estates, it is noteworthy for its coastal localities and residential areas, for its prestigious marinas such as Port Adriano and Puerto Portals and, of course, for the great attraction of its golf courses.
At its most westerly part is Santa Ponsa, a tourist, residential and marine nucleus connected to Palma via a motorway. It has a 1,300 metre beach and a family atmosphere, a sports marina, all in a location of high historical value, and two 18 hole golf courses and one with 9 holes. The Club de Golf Santa Ponsa has been the backdrop for important national and international tournaments such as the Open Golf (European PGA Tour), the European Club Championship and International S.A.R. Princess Birgitta of Sweden.
Barely 9 km away is T-Golf Calvià, between the residential areas of Sol de Mallorca and Cala Vinyes. An extremely luxurious club with 18 holes which winds its way through pine trees, 15 lakes and some marvellous views.
The Bendinat area is distinguished by being a high-end residential area, next to small beaches and coves with turquoise waters. Located just 10 minutes from the Mallorcan capital, it exudes calm and tranquillity. It offers a varied range of gastronomy and leisure, as well as magnificently equipped infrastructure. This is where the majestic Castle of Bendinat is located, whose history dates back to the reconquest of Mallorca in 1229.
At the foot of the castle is the Real Golf de Bendinat: 18 holes and over 5,600 metres of course that alternates between valleys and hills with sea views.
The hills to the west of the Mallorcan capital are home to the city’s most exclusive residential homes. Beside them, extend 4 highly prestigious golf courses: Son Muntaner, Son Quint, Son Vida and Palma Pitch&Putt by Arabella Golf.
Arriving from the motorway or Ring Road that surrounds Palma, the first golf course you reach is Son Quint, an 18 hole course with 5,750 metres. Notable for holes 8 and 17, from which there is a spectacular view of Palma.
Barely 1 km away, is Son Muntaner, an 18 hole course with 72 PAR, and slightly larger than the previous course. It is notable for its complex greens and for being part of the European Tour Destinations association.
By these courses, is Palma Pitch&Putt by Arabella Golf, a 9 hole course designed for fun. All its holes are 3 par and it is the only official Pitch&Putt on the island.
At just over 1 km to the east stands the residential area of Son Vida, a privileged and extremely exclusive location where the luxury villas blend with the pine trees on a hill that offers impressive views of the city and the bay of Palma. In its vicinity, the Son Vida golf club represents the style of the area. With 18 holes and 5,600 metres, it enjoys great prestige throughout Europe and has, on some occasions, hosted the European Tour.
In a very different location, beside the motorway that joins Palma and Manacor, the Golf Son Gual is a private and friendly golf club in which certain rules of etiquette are required and one can only attend by invitation. It has 18 holes over an area of 156 hectares of Mediterranean landscape.
In the municipality Llucmajor, which adjoins Palma to the east, there are two attractive golf clubs which are easily reached by the motorway: Golf Maioris and Marriott Golf Son Antem.
Golf Maioris is located by the residential area of the same name and it is one of the newest golf courses on the island. It has 18 holes with 72 PAR.
A little over 15 minutes on the motorway and you will arrive at the Marriott Golf Son Antem, a luxurious resort with 2 golf courses which add up to a total of 36 holes. They are characterised by their perfect integration into the landscape and their flat profile. The first course has a classic design with wide fairways. The second requires greater technique and contains three large lakes.
At the east of the island, between the coastal populations of Cala D’Or and Portocolom, is Golf Vall d’Or, a splendid 18 hole course with spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.
In the north-east, there is a concentration of 4 golf courses within a radius of barely 20 km: Pula Golf, Golf Son Servera, Capdepera Golf and Canyamel Golf.
Pula Golf is just 3 km from the locality of Son Servera. It is an 18 hole course developed on an old Mallorcan country manor house.
Close by, in the exclusive residential area of the Costa de los Pinos, Golf Son Servera is a complete institution for enthusiasts of this sport. It was the second golf course to be created on the island. Its 18 holes extend to the foot of the mountains and provide magnificent views of the bay of Cala Millor.
A little over 10 km to the north-east, Canyamel Golf stands out as being one of the most picturesque courses in Mallorca. It is a course with 18 holes and 73 PAR which has respected the natural environment by creating a very unusual course.
Heading inland, you will find Capdepera Golf, situated between the Castle of Capdepera and the town of Artà. It has 18 holes and, despite it being located inland, the elevation of its holes provides some majestic views over the valley and the coast.
In the north of the island, the bays of Alcúdia and Pollensa constitute a delightful natural setting in which to enjoy a tranquil life, but one with all the opportunities for leisure, culture, gastronomy and sports.
Golf Alcanada is located on the south coast of La Victoria peninsula. It is an 18 hole course with a large expanse by the edge of the sea from which you can see the Alcanada lighthouse situated on an islet and the large bay of Alcúdia.
Further inland, scarcely 4 km away, the historic town of Pollensa is home to Golf Pollensa. This is a 9 hole course situated in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. Apart from the views of the mountains, it offers a unique panorama of the two bays.
